  1. I liked how they played with intonation and released together, that seemed really professional to me. It sounded very good, they played without making any mistakes, but even if they did I did not notice. This experience influenced my future music-making by helping me get the urge to practice some more and to get better at playing my instrument.

  2. Q1). I enjoyed the facts that each player explained their music pieces and how each instrument fits into the music. I was quite surprised at how all of the players knew the detailed facts about the music that they played. I clearly enjoyed and was surprised at how much the Wind Quintet perfected their performance. It told me that all players take the initiative to "perfect" their tone ,fingerings, rhythmic precision, etc.The "mini-stories" were quite effective at getting my attention.

Q2). In my future music-making, I think that I will be able to appreciate the music I play in a "higher knowledge understanding". If a new music piece is to be given out, I am certain that at first no one will enjoy the music piece as no one is familiar with all music. And I am quite motivated to take more responsibility when given time to prepare for a concert.

  3. I enjoyed the pieces they chose to play, especially the variation pieces, because each variation shows the characteristics of each instrument. It was interesting to see how the pieces brought out not only the instrument, but the musician’s personality as well.

This experience influenced my music-making abilities by encouraging me to become more knowledgeable about each of my pieces. The musicians that came to perform for us had researched and shared their idea of what the composer wanted the piece to sound like. I thought having an understanding of what was wanted for the piece made them play the piece even better compared to if they didn’t do their research.

  4. I enjoyed how the musicians showcased every single instrument separately, as well as together as an ensemble. I think that in the future I will focus more on listening to where my part fits into the band instead of relying mostly on the conductor. This is because the quintet didn’t have a conductor, and were still able to stay and end together by listening to each other. By keeping this in mind, I think that it will help improve my beat-counting abilities since I'll be relying more on myself.

  5. I thought that in the Ad Mare Wind Quintet, the thing that I liked most was that every instrument had a song that represented it. I thought that that was interesting because it gave a chance for us to hear and learn the special parts that their instrument provided, to the song overall.

This will further influence my future music-making, because then, when I play a piece music, I won’t take my parts for granted, since it will contribute to the whole song overall. And our parts (flute) would, bring the song another appearance.

  6. 1. What I liked about the Ad Mare Wind Quintet was that they talked a little bit about their instrument and what role it played in the piece they were about to play. What I also liked was how they talked about the piece and included some backround information about it so there could be a full understanding of what is played.

    2. This will influence my future music making becuase I won't just play the notes on the page but i try to understand the bigger picture of what the true meaning of the piece is.

  7. I enjoyed that each performer explained about their parts in each piece. Each of them demonstrated their parts and they talked about their instruments. They played very well and they were playing on time and on beat in every piece of music especially when playing the sixteenth and other faster notes.
This experience influenced my music-making to be more aware of what the piece is actually about and not just playing the notes and following the right rhythm. I also think that I should practice more so that I can understand the piece and visualize what the piece is about.

  8. What I liked about there performances was that each of the performers instrument represented a song that they played and that they each had to say some important thoughts about each piece that they played. Another thing that i absolutely enjoyed was when there was one person playing aat a point then the nxet kinda like a solo in a way and how they all played so professionaly like they were going to perform for the government.

This will influence me in the future because I would be able to understand the bigger thoughts of the piece and being able to expand the feelings of the music and explaining it in a very professional way.

  9. Personally I enjoyed every part of their performance; but my favourite part had to be when the flutist started to play the piccolo. I was simply amazed how high that thing could go! They also played with good breathing technology and no mistakes were noticed – wait, were there any mistakes?
This experience influenced me that if I keep practicing at playing high, I’ll achieve my goal of playing high. So far I’m at a steady point that I can play high sometimes – but not all the time. It also made me want to practice on my breathing technology and be as good as the rest of the band, this one of coarse needs work…lots of it.

  10. 1. What I enjoyed about the performance was the fact that the player introduced their instrument (origin, history, background), then the piece they played after wards involved that instrument as the main feature, like what others here said. My favorite piece they played was the last one. I don't remember the name of it but I've definitely heard it somewhere in my distant past.
    2. This experience will influence my music-making, to play as if I were a soloist. I noticed that all of them played with confidence, like they knew the music behind the back of their hand, and the sounds coming out of their instruments didn't sound cluttered or messy. So the way I see it, if I could play like that if I were to solo, then playing in a section or band should be no problem at all.

  11. 1. What I enjoyed was their ability to merge their different sounds (see: oboe, brass) together to make the sound of a together ensemble. I also enjoyed the little showcases for each instrument.
    2. From this I’ve learned to pay attention to not only the conductor but to listening to each other as well. Although their quintet had a (kind of) conductor that would signal the start and end of a piece, for the rest of the songs they had to pay attention to what each player was playing and where they were at, as well as correspond the appropriate dynamics, tempo, etc.

  12. In the performance, I liked how they sounded so together and well balanced. It was blended very well and I can distinctly hear each of part in the piece and personalities of their instruments. I always like hear how each part ties together with each other because I’m always in the 3rd row and it hard for me to hear the combine balanced sound from everyone.
This influences me that each part has an emotion and a good way to play it is to play it is with that emotion that the composer intended which I guess anyone can find out by researching or trying out the piece. Also this performance made me want to try out another instrument and try to be flexible in more than one instrument.

  13. 1. I enjoyed the little background speech each musician made for each of their instrument. I liked how they moved their bodies to keep in time. I also liked how they all started at the same time with full confidence and concluded together.
    2. After listening to them, this experience will influence my future music-making in many ways. I learned that learning a bit of history, whether it’s the instrument or song, would help me understand my part.

  14. 1. I like how each instrument had a piece where they could shine as well as play together with the rest of the instruments. I also liked that they provided information about the piece and the instrument.
    2. I will probably now listen more to the other instruments and see how my part fits in.

  15. 1. I really liked how they all balanced each other out, explained a little fact about their instruments and how each peice displayed each instruments/musicians talents.

    2. This experience influenced my future music-making because it taught me what the personality of my instrument is (flute), it also showed me that i have a lot of hard work ahead of me to be as good as them.

  16. I enjoyed how each musician provided background information upon the music they played , as well as the musician the song was written for, and I also enjoyed how they provided a solo piece for each instrument.
The experience has shown me that each part, even if it is a small part, is important, and knowing what role you hold can make a difference in how you play music.

  17. 1) I liked how they told us about the different personalities of their instruments and then showed us in their playing.

2)This experience will influence my future music making because hearing how all of their parts fit together reinforces how important it is to know what role my part plays when we are playing.

  18. Hm.

The best thing I liked about their performance was that they started their show with attention grabbing CONVICTION and this would be something we should do in tour. To start off our shows like that.

I think something else that we can all learn is that they played with flawless balance. Although they were only five, the same principle should apply to our band(s) as well.

  19. I enjoyed hearing each instrument being played and being able to distinguish the sounds the instrument can make. Another thing that I thought was interesting was the fact that while they were playing indivisual parts, they were together in some way.

I think this can greatly influence young musicians by providing motivation to be able to play such versatile parts with the intonation required.

  20. I liked how they each told us a little bit about their instrument and the pieces they played. I could also hear each of the instruments during the performance.

I think this experience will influence my future music making by inspiring me to play more with others and to learn more about other instruments.

  21. I really liked their balance in the group, as all small groups of musicians should be. they also showcased each of the instruments, both in the music and in their explinations. This year, not only did they talk about the piece, but they also talked more this year about the instrments themselves (which i liked)

Music making wise, I'd say I'm going to pay even more close attention to balance (also influenced by the comparison of the two tritons). Balance can be tricky I've found, when playing the oboe. It sounds like a duck and sometimes, it can stick out like a sore thumb -.-

  22. The Mare Wind Quintet’s performance would be one that I wouldn't forget for a while. So far, the only chamber music I’ve listened to were strings quartets, etc (sad, ain’t it?) and the difference in sound, and the contrast between the piccolo and the bassoon was so large, yet perfect, in creating that sound that only woodwinds were able to create, and then just add a French horn, and the sound is perfect. This will defiantly influence my music making a lot, because just seeing the quintet, I could tell the blending of the dark to bright tones were prefect. And If the tones were to be applied in music for us, It would help a lot!

  23. I enjoyed listening to them play solo's and hearing each player play in their own way. I enjoyed hearing the basoon because in my block there is no basoon. I also enjoyed hearing about the pieces that always makes it more interseting.

It will influence my music making alot. I was and amazing performance. Hte ways it will influence my msuic making is probably by making me think about all the things I can. Now I have a goal.

  24. The Mare Wind Wind Quintet's performance was stunning. I didn't hear the chamber music - this was the first time I ever heard. Since I play flute, I paid more attention to flute player. The high notes of flute and piccolo contract yet match well with the basoon and other instrument sounds by showing deep yet clear sound that I wish i can make.

By watching this performance, I realized that I need more practice for tone and pitch as well as steady air. I have something to work on right now!

  25. I enjoyed that each musician introduced their instrument, giving information behind the instrument, as well as telling us about their pieces. I also liked that they played various pieces that showcased each instrument, without making the showcased instrument too special.

This experience will influence my music making by making me look more into the history behind the piece of music, and learning more about why it was written, and if possible, more about the musicians playing it. Each of the Mare Wind Quintet tried to learn more about the musicians that originally played their part so that they could understand how it was suppose to be played. I believe that this, in a way, gives the music more personality and more conviction.
